The Audio Room is a room equipped with a turntable, CD player and amplifier, where students can listen to the library’s vinyl and CD collections.
The Audio room can be booked for up to three hours per day and is available during Library Hours. The Audio Room Keycard must be returned to the Library Services Desk before the library closes. Please book this room only for using the audio equipment.
How to access the Audio Room and borrow headphones
To book the Audio Room:
- Visit Book the Audio Room (7-202G).
- Choose the date you would like to book the room
- Select your start time; each green box equals 30 minutes of available time
- The booking calendar automatically sets your booking to one hour. To add more time, select your end time from the dropdown menu below the calendar
- Select the “Submit Times” button below the dropdown menu to confirm your booking
- Your booking confirmation will be emailed to your MacEwan student account
To use the Audio Room:
- Bring your confirmation email to the Library Services Desk to borrow the keycard
- You can borrow a pair of headphones if you do not have your own; the Library has two sets available:
- Focal Celestee headphones (very high quality) or
- Grado SR80 headphones (good quality)
- Use the keycard to unlock Room 7-202G
- When finished, return the keycard and headphones to the Library Services desk.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you close the door behind you when finished
How to play CDs and vinyl on the audio components
CDs
- Press the power button on the amplifier control panel, then press “CD”
- Make sure that the volume knob is turned down to low volume
- On the CD Player, press “Stop/Open.” The CD drawer should open, and you can place the CD, label side up, into the CD drawer
- Push the CD drawer closed
- Put the headphones on and connect them to the “Phones” jack on the amplifier
- Place the headphones on the headphones holder when not in use
- Press the “Play/Pause/Skip” knob to play the CD
- When finished, press “Stop/Open” to open the CD Drawer and remove the CD
- Push the CD drawer closed
- On the amplifier, turn the volume down to low volume and press the power button
- Unplug the headphones
Vinyl LPs
- Press the Power button on the amplifier control panel, then press “Phono”
- Remove the plastic cover from the turntable and place the vinyl record on the platter
- Release the tone arm lock if it is in place
- Use the dust brush to brush dirt and dust from the record
- Rotate the “Off/On” knob to the “On” position
- Press the “Start/Stop” button to start the turntable
- On the amplifier, make sure that the volume knob is turned down to low volume
- Put the headphones on and connect them to the “Phones” jack on the amplifier
- Place the headphones on the headphones holder when not in use
- Press “Start/Stop” to start the turntable
- Use the control arm to lift the tonearm, then place it on the record where desired and adjust volume
- When finished, use the control arm to lift the tonearm from the record and return it to the resting position
- Press “Start/Stop” to stop the turntable
- Rotate the “Off/On” knob to the “Off” position
- On the amplifier, turn the volume down to low volume and press the power button
- Unplug the headphones
